The volume, Family Pictures/Cuadros de Familia, gives the reader snapshots of family traditions throughout the story that are written bilingually, starting time in English language and once more in Spanish below. The author told about her experience growing up in Kingsville, Texas and shared a wide diversity of the traditions and activities she participated in with her family and friends on each page. Recollections included Carmen sharing about going to her grandparent'south firm as her grandmother was hanging the laundry The book, Family Pictures/Cuadros de Familia, gives the reader snapshots of family traditions throughout the story that are written bilingually, first in English and again in Spanish beneath. The writer told about her experience growing up in Kingsville, Texas and shared a wide variety of the traditions and activities she participated in with her family and friends on each page. Recollections included Carmen sharing about going to her grandparent's house as her grandmother was hanging the laundry and picking as many oranges off their orange tree as she could. Another addicted retention included was Carmen's sixth and her blood brother's fourth altogether political party. Their family gathered and celebrated as the piñata was hitting. Overall, the book was able to include many of Carmen's Hispanic family traditions with beautiful artwork to match the scenes.
The major themes of this book include family unit relationships and Multicultural insights into a family living most the border of Mexico.
I found that this volume gave me a style to await into another culture'due south traditions. This made me experience more than informed and capable of understanding certain traditions in future. I thoroughly enjoyed getting the opportunity to expect within of Carmen's life growing up.
I recommend this book considering students everywhere could benefit from learning more about a culture that may not be theirs, or be able to see a mirror for those who participate in some of the traditions wrote about in the book. There is such vibrant fine art and very busy scenes which helps the reader stay engaged. When I offset discovered Carmen Lomas Garza and her books I was blown away. I felt as if she had written my life story! The pictures and the little anecdotes and tales of her life were absolutely parallel to mine. I could not get over how meticulously accurate her descriptions were of the babyhood memories she depicted in her illustrations and words.
I take read this book and so many times and each time I read it and look at the illustrations, and vivid images come dorsum to me and I am overcome with When I first discovered Carmen Lomas Garza and her books I was blown away. I felt as if she had written my life story! The pictures and the trivial anecdotes and tales of her life were absolutely parallel to mine. I could not get over how meticulously accurate her descriptions were of the babyhood memories she depicted in her illustrations and words.
I have read this book so many times and each fourth dimension I read information technology and await at the illustrations, and vivid images come back to me and I am overcome with such an bliss and happiness. I use these books as a reference to my own children so that they tin can appreciate the way I grew upward and the simplicity of a humbler fourth dimension.
All of the illustrations are brilliant just if I had to pick a favorite information technology would exist the 'tamalada' consequence. I have such wonderful memories of my mother, aunts, cousins and neighbors coming to help with the tamales and my mother's genuine joy of making them. Many of my students from Mexico can chronicle to this picture. They have their own stories to share from the past and even at present about making tamales with their families for special occassions.
